71st Republic Day – Women Bikers Parade

A glimpse of the complete event is depicted through this Cinematic shoot by our professional team.

What started as a wish 2 months ago turned into reality on the morning of the 71st Republic Day; 26th January 2020.

SHE  for Society, a social service organisation created by Harshini Devatha with a dollop of passion to make a difference and to help women in need through empowerment organised the first women-only Republic Day Ride in Bengaluru. A one of its kind event; the ride intended to felicitate the families of martyred army jawans.

Over 500 people gathered at 5 am at Freedom Park in Bengaluru awaiting the flag-off that happened sharp at 6.30 am. (No mean feat)The sight of 140 bikes including 15 women police, gypsy’s and elegant & vintage cars parked in a formation along with the enthusiasm and excitement of dancing with the dolukunitha team were surreal. Roughly 350 people, including skaters, riders and women police took on the streets of Bengaluru, passing through several famous heritage sites of the city, namely Vidhan Soudha. Dressed in vibrant tri-colour costumes they represented patriotism, the strength of unity and camaraderie. The ride saw pillion riders and women driving like a boss in gypsy’s waving the national flags exhibiting the spirit of patriotism.

With the help of the Mysore Sainik Board and army personnel working in Siachen; Subedar Karuna Gowda, 6 families of martyred army jawans in Karnataka were honoured. The chief guests included Kum. Shobha Karandlaje and Lieutenant Bhavana Kasturi.

Shobha is a Member of Parliament and one of the most prominent Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) politicians of Karnataka. She joined RSS at a very young age and has given her life to the RSS, vowing to never get married. She started her political career with Shakuntala Shetty in 1994.

Bhavana became the first woman in the history of the Indian Army to lead an all-male contingent consisting of 144 men. She led the contingent of the India Army Service Corps, Major General Rajpal Punia, Deputy Parade Commander of the 2019 Republic Day parade.

Post felicitation, the veer naris (wives of the martyred jawans) was almost in tears and very glad to be a part of this event. They expressed that they have never been a part of such an event, even though they have been felicitated before.

The event ended with smiles and hugs and a promise to continue riding, empowering women and making 2020 a memorable year for as many lives around as possible.
