World Environment Day – Lakkappanahalli Pond Cleaning

On the event of World Environment Day, She for Society was determined to support a project to conserve Nature. We initiated this great work and visited the place to give our best to the project on eve of World Motorcycle day, for being the group of Women bikers. What a great coincidence when two great objectives come together – She stands for Society in a Swag…

Clean Pond – Green Life

An initiative by She for Society to conserve Nature. We identified a place where we can endorse our support in conservation of nature, the place is currently called Lakkapanahalli, village in Ramanagara, near to Bengaluru city.

There is a historical significance of this village. Shri. Kengal Hanumanthaih, Karnataka’s second Chief Minister and the man behind construction of our own State Assembly – Vidhana Soudha, was from this very village. Water Bodies are important to restore and revive in making the soil fertile. It supports in ground water regeneration too.

This pond is a very old and well utilized pond in the past. Over years, with decline in rainfalls and some encroachment which hinders easy flow of Rainwater into the Pond. This has led to growth of Weeds and accumulation of silt. Further, this has hindered the utility of the Pond. There are several actions that must be taken up for rejuvenating this pond.

We are clearing the area for water storage by cutting out the weeds and clearing the silt that is causing hindrance for the water storage. The small canals have to be cleared up for easy flow of the rainwater falling on the ground. To uphold the water storage and support in overflowing of water to another distant waterbody, the Retainer wall must be re-plastered.

She for Society has supported in deploying laborers and the JCB backhoe loaders to dig up and clearing of weeds and silt increasing its capacity to retain more water. Volunteers along with She for Society core team visited the place on 20th June 2020; to support the cleaning activity.

It was a great day, well spent amidst nature to support the restoration and conservation. The hospitality of the natives is so commendable and made us feel the worthiness of every effort that She for Society is stepping towards.
